A converting concrete drain leading from Yuan Ching Road to Jurong Lake into a series of naturalised streams. Now called Neram Streams, they channel stormwater runoff from the surrounding gardens. The stormwater is cleansed by plantings in the streams and eventually flows into Jurong Lake, one of Singapore’s 17 reservoirs. Guided walks along the trail provide opportunities for visitors to learn about the area’s rich biodiversity, and to get close to the shallow waters of the streams.

Heron Island @Neram Streams

At the mouth of Neram Streams is a collection of islands that arose from the construction of the streams. Many of the mature trees from before the gardens were build have been retained gere, and they provide food and shelter for many bird speices. The islands serve as a haven for shy birds, and may be appreciated by visitors from afar.

Herons and bitterns are frequent visitors to Jurong Lake Gardens, with more than 10 species recorded here.
